New Zealand Road Trip

For the past couple weeks my grandmother has been travelling around New Zealand with us. She came on our little road trip with us and made it a lot of fun. Even though the car was pretty tight with all of our luggage plus my grandmothers luggage and an extra person. We started out with a six hour car ride to a little place called Taupo. Taupo was pretty cool because we were on a hill with a view of the lake, and WIFI!!!!!! While we were in Taupo we did some really cool and fun stuff. One of the things we did was go to the geothermal gysers and springs. It was cool there but I think that my mom enjoyed it the most, #nerdalert. Although that was cool, the best thing we did in Taupo by far was bungy jumping. It was really fun and we had a lot of fun because there was also a giant swing called the cliff hanger swing. The cliff hanger swing had a really big drop something like 43 meters. Even though my grandma broke a lot of the safety regulation rules, she didn’t care because she really wanted to do the swing. So as they are lining up I know exactly how they feel because I just did it the day before. It feels amazing once you are riding it, but before you are on it, its terrifying. You are just hanging over a 43 meter drop by a little string, the people working the swing are very nice and trick you into dropping before you even realize it. They say stuff like “look at that camera and that one” and before you know it you are dropping at a rapid pace. It feels like you are flying once you are on the up swing but before that it is scary. The swing was very fun and I know my grandma enjoyed, but what I was even more excited about was that that made my mom go. My mom doesn’t usually do stuff like this, where you are dropping superfast and flying around. Even ten minutes afterwards she was still shaking but she at least admitted to have some fun. The bungy was very cool and even my sister did it. I was very excited while my sister was sitting next to me sort of shaking. They tied on the things to my feet (which cut off the circulation) and I was ready to go. They told me where to stand, but I saw them push the people off and I didn’t want the people to push me because I wanted to jump.  I thought that he was going to push me so I kinda rushed it and thought I was going to jump but it turns out on the camera that I squatted like I was ready to jump, but then just fell forward. It felt awesome flying through the air and feeling like I was flying. When you are bouncing back up it is really fun because it pulls you up and then you feel like you are just floating for a second. I got to watch my sister and dad go after me which was cool. After that we went and did the luge. Luging kinda has the body of a go carts but no engine because you use the momentum. The carts themselves are hard plastic that when you get going really fast that smell like burnt rubber. It was a very fun family exercise that my little sisters loved. But I have to admit that we had a really awesome base camp. My grandma has a really cool friend (Celia) in New Zealand that let us stay at her house the whole week. We got to meet some of her kids that were really cool and let us stay in their rooms. Celia also had this really cool cat called Salem, he was so cool he let Alina throw him around (a mean way of carrying him). But Lexi and I called him Scabbers. No he didn’t have any scabs and I don’t know why we called him Scabbers but he didn’t care. He would sleep on the end of my bed just like our cat, that was a very big bonus. But although it seems as if the fun never ends it did for that week, when my grandma had to fly back to the USA. It was really fun having her here and I know she really enjoyed it, and I hope she comes back again. So we went back to the boat and are still doing massive amounts of work from when we fell behind over that trip. But on the bright side my dad, Lexi and I are all going to this knife making class where we get to make and keep our own knife that we made out of steel.

  1. Dear Tristan, Thank you for your vivid report about our common adventures in New Zealand. You guessed right: I had a fantastic time. First of all, thank you for giving up your cabin for me, you know I just love that cosy, comfortable place, especially when sweetly swaying on gentle waves....As to the trip, I have many specially fond memories; The abbey caves in Whangarei with is adventurous descent ( at least for a 78 year old body!) and at the end the sparkling lights of fire flies. I also was most impressed by the geo thermal park, not by the sort of made-up geyser eruption , but to see and smell all those different caves, holes and lakes created by the steam, hot water, continuous gurgling of sulphur smelling mud etc. What an amazing sight. The endless long walk nearly killed me but not my enthusiasm . (The similar thing you can apparently explore in Mt. Lassen Park. So let's go next time when we are up there)
I still see the endless green hills with long shrub or tree-hedges or majestic single trees on the horizon. (Did you really observe these too or did you just play your little phone game?!)
As to all the crazy activities, that old ladies probably should not do anymore: De Heck! I loved them. You see, I have no fear of that kind of stuff and whatever my sons suggest I would do with them! And of course, you and Lexi were a great example, going first!
I hope you will get this little message (as I don't really know which button to press!!!) This is to tell you that I loved your article. May I, maybe, suggest a few alternative expression to "cool" and "awesome", after all you are still home-schooled:
Cool: amazing, lovely, gorgeous, breathtaking, wonderful, stunning. dazzling, striking, incredible, unbelievable, unusual , extraordinary etc.
Awesome: the same as above and perhaps:impressive, fantastic, unearthly!....
Tristan, I love you and I had such a good time with you and the whole family. Be good and enjoy! You know that you are lucky to go on an adventure like this, be grateful and help your parents, they work hard!!! Love and hugs your Oma
